Scope 1-2-3 Sioux

About Sioux

Sioux Technologies is a leading technology company that positions itself as a strategic solutions partner that develops, innovates and assembles complex high-tech systems with advanced Software, Mathware, Electronics, Mechanics and Mechatronics.

With more than 1200 employees, Sioux supports or forms the R&D department of leading high-tech companies. Sioux is happy to take responsibility for this: from thinking along in the concept phase to delivering series production. Sioux wants to add value together with its customers and build innovative solutions that can contribute to a society that is smarter, safer, healthier, more enjoyable and more sustainable.

Sustainability plays an important role within Sioux. Active work is being done on technologies that contribute to a more sustainable future, such as solutions for the energy transition, environmentally friendly production methods and more efficient use of raw materials. In the context of the upcoming CSRD legislation (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), which requires companies to be more transparent about their environmental impact, Sioux is preparing itself by mapping its carbon footprint together with Dispersed. This not only helps them to better understand their CO2 emissions, but also enables them to take targeted measures to further improve the sustainability of their business operations.

Goal & Scope

The goal of our collaboration with Sioux was to map Sioux’s greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3) using a carbon footprint analysis. A detailed analysis is essential for Sioux to gain insight into the impact of their business operations and supply chain, so that they can take targeted measures to reduce emissions and improve the sustainability of their processes and products. This is not only essential to meet the requirements of the CSRD, but also to support customers who increasingly value sustainable collaboration and technology with minimal environmental impact.

The Scope 1-2-3 analysis serves to provide Sioux with an initial, GHG-compliant baseline measurement and to provide insight into what data is available and what additional data is needed to be able to report more accurately and CSRD-compliant in the future.

"This analysis gives us a good first insight into our scope 1-2-3 emissions. Next year we will improve the quality of the data supplied in order to obtain an even better report. The Dispersed team is bursting with energy, is hands-on and very driven, which benefits the collaboration." - Bob Nolte (Facility Manager, Sioux Technologies)

The process

A major challenge in this project was the collection of specific data for the analysis. For several categories, such as the processing of products, the use of products and the end-of-life phase of sold products, sufficient information was still missing, which made it difficult to calculate the emissions in these categories accurately.

In addition, for some categories, partly specific consumption data was available, but in other cases only financial data could be used. Although this financial data allows for a valuable initial estimate, it also has limitations and increases the uncertainty of the results. Therefore, recommendations for improving the data quality and the accuracy of future analyses are an important outcome of this project.

The experiences from this data collection phase provide Sioux with valuable insight into the steps that are needed for a more complete and accurate data collection in the coming years. This includes a plan to supplement missing data, increase the quality of the existing data and set up a data management system for managing the carbon footprint information.

By working together with supply chain partners and requesting specific sustainability information from suppliers, Sioux can replace assumptions with factual data in the future and map its carbon footprint in increasingly more detail.

Carbon Dashboard

The analysis was performed in the Dispersed Carbon Dashboard, a data management system specifically developed for carbon footprint information. This dashboard supports the data collection and management of emission data, making the process more efficient and data easier to organize and control. It provides detailed insight into Sioux's carbon footprint and simplifies emission calculations for Scope 1, 2 and 3. In addition, the Dispersed Carbon Dashboard facilitates reporting in line with CSRD requirements, which helps companies to track and account for their sustainability goals in a more transparent and targeted manner.
